History of North America

Give three reasons for the Texas revolt?

1. Texians' belief that Mexico was violating the Constitution of 1824. The constitution had granted the states of Mexico a significant degree of autonomy, but the Mexican government had been increasingly centralizing power in Mexico City. This angered many Texians, who believed that their rights were being trampled on.

2. The issue of slavery. Mexico had abolished slavery in 1829, but many Texians were slaveholders. They feared that if Texas remained part of Mexico, their slaves would be freed.

3. The Mexican government's refusal to allow Texians to settle in large numbers north of the Nueces River. This policy restricted the growth of the Texan population and made it difficult for farmers and ranchers to expand their operations.
