When did Lewis and Clark start their expedition?

Lewis and Clark started their expedition on May 21, 1804, from Camp Wood near St. Louis, Missouri. The expedition, officially known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, lasted about two and a half years, ending on September 23, 1806, when they returned to St. Louis. During this time, they explored various areas, especially the Louisiana Territory, which had recently been acquired by the United States from France in the Louisiana Purchase.
