According to the 2020 United States census, the states with the largest Native American populations are:

- Oklahoma 470,000 (13.3%)

- California 360,000 (9.5%)

- Arizona 340,000 (8.5%)

- Texas 290,000 (7.1%)

- New York 225,000 (5.5%)

- North Carolina 190,000 (4.5%)

- Washington 185,000 (4.4%)

- New Mexico 175,000 (4.1%)

- Colorado 165,000 (3.8%)

- Michigan 150,000 (3.5%)

Alaska, Hawaii, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin also had significant Native American populations.

Additionally, there are 326 federal recognized tribes located across 35 states.
