Was Johnny Tremain a Loyalist or Patriot?

Johnny Tremain is the fictional protagonist in the 1943 children's novel of the same name by Esther Forbes, which is set during the American Revolution in Boston from 1773 to 1776. Johnny is a young apprentice silversmith who becomes involved in the Sons of Liberty and witnesses many important events of the period, including the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. In the novel, Johnny is a strong supporter of the American Revolution, and his sympathies lie firmly with the Patriots.
