History of North America

What is the main reason that a large amount of land in Canada remains mostly unpopulated?

Canada has a vast landmass, but a lot of it is located in the far northern regions of the country, which are not conducive to human habitation. The climate in these areas is extremely cold, with long, harsh winters and short, cool summers. The ground is often frozen, making it difficult to build and grow crops. Additionally, there is a lack of infrastructure, such as roads, schools, and hospitals, in these remote regions. As a result, most of the population of Canada is concentrated in the southern part of the country, where the climate is more moderate and there is better access to resources and services.
