What side where floridians on during the civil war?

The majority of Floridians supported the Confederacy during the Civil War. Florida seceded from the Union on January 10, 1861 and was one of the founding members of the Confederate States of America. Approximately 15,000 Floridians served in the Confederate Army and contributed to Confederate victory in a number of major battles. Floridians played a relatively large but somewhat controversial role in the Civil War, given the state's small population at the time.
