History of Asia

Into What areas did the Han Dynasty expand?

1. Northern and Western China

The Han Dynasty expanded its territories in northern and western China, incorporating regions that were previously under the control of the Xiongnu nomads. This included the areas of present-day Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, and Ningxia.

2. Central Asia

The Han Dynasty also expanded its influence into Central Asia, establishing the Protectorate of the Western Regions. This region encompassed present-day Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

3. Northeast Asia

The Han Dynasty expanded into northeast Asia, conquering the kingdom of Gojoseon and establishing the Four Commanderies of Lelang, Xuantu, Zhenfan, and Lintun. These commanderies were located in present-day North Korea and parts of northeast China.

4. Southeast Asia

The Han Dynasty established diplomatic relations and trade with various kingdoms in Southeast Asia, including Funan (located in present-day Cambodia) and Jiaozhi (located in present-day Vietnam).

5. Korean Peninsula

The Han Dynasty also conquered parts of the Korean peninsula, establishing four Chinese commanderies in the northern part of the peninsula. These commanderies were later abandoned due to resistance from the local population.
