Who was General Gibral Tariq?

Tariq ibn Ziyad (c. 670–c. 720 CE) was a Muslim Berber military commander and governor who led the initial Umayyad conquest of Hispania in 711 CE, thus beginning the eight-century-long Muslim rule of the Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus).

He is widely known in English-speaking countries as Tariq ibn Ziyad or simply as Tariq, which is the short version of his name. He was also commonly referred to as the Conqueror of Spain due to his victory in Hispania.
