Historical story

Why was hadrian wall called wall?

Hadrian's Wall was named after the Roman Emperor Hadrian, who ordered its construction in 122 AD. The wall was built to mark the northern frontier of the Roman Empire and to protect Roman Britain from attack by the tribes of Caledonia (modern-day Scotland) to the north.

The wall was called 'Hadrian's Wall' in order to honour the emperor and to recognise his role in its construction. The name became widely used by both the Romans and the Britons, and remains the most common name for the wall today.
