Historical story

What happens after the wounded Arthur is carried to water edge?

When the mortally wounded King Arthur is carried to the water's edge, he encounters a mysterious barge floating nearby. The barge is said to be sent by the enchantress Morgan le Fay, who is Arthur's half-sister. She offers to take Arthur to the magical island of Avalon, where he can receive healing and rest.

As Arthur and his knights row out to the barge, he bids farewell to his loyal follower, Sir Bedivere. He instructs Bedivere to return Excalibur, his legendary sword, to the Lady of the Lake. Arthur then lies down on the barge, and it begins to move away, carrying him towards Avalon.

According to legend, Arthur is not meant to die but rather to sleep on Avalon until he is needed once again. Some believe that when Britain faces grave peril, Arthur will return from Avalon to save the kingdom.
