Historical story

What did the Cherokee take with them on trail of tears?

During the Trail of Tears, the Cherokee people were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands in the southeastern United States and relocated to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). They were allowed to take only a limited amount of their belongings with them, and many were forced to leave behind their homes, livestock, and other possessions.

Some of the items that the Cherokee were able to take with them included clothing, blankets, cooking utensils, and a few personal belongings. They also carried food supplies, such as cornmeal, beans, and dried meat. In some cases, the Cherokee were able to bring along some of their livestock, such as horses and cows.

However, many of the Cherokee were not able to take even these basic necessities with them. They were forced to travel on foot, and many died from exposure, starvation, and disease. The Trail of Tears was a tragic event in American history, and it resulted in the loss of life and property for thousands of Cherokee people.
