What happen to john brown after the raid?

After the failed raid on Harpers Ferry, John Brown was captured by U.S. Marines led by Colonel Robert E. Lee. Brown and his surviving followers were tried in the federal courthouse in Charles Town, Virginia. Brown was found guilty of treason, murder, and inciting a slave insurrection.

On November 2, 1859, John Brown was hanged in Charles Town. His death sparked further tensions between the North and the South, and is often seen as a precursor to the American Civil War.
