Historical story

What did nat turner want changed?

Immediate and unconditional abolition of African enslavement

Nat Turner, who was enslaved himself, believed enslavement to be the most egregious act of violence that could be done to someone and that, because of such suffering, enslaved Africans had the right and the obligation to seek revenge. Thus, his aim was total annihilation of the white population—men, women, and children—of Southampton County, Virginia in order to end enslavement.
