Historical story

What did they do for vasco da gama after his death?

Vasco da Gama was initially buried at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cochin. His remains were brought to Portugal in 1539 and interred in Vidigueira, his hometown, where they stayed for 150 years. Later, his remains were moved to the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém, Lisbon, alongside the tomb of Luís Vaz de Camões, Portugal's greatest poet and author of "The Lusiads," an epic poem that celebrates da Gama's voyage. Today, visitors can pay their respects to Vasco da Gama at the Jerónimos Monastery, where a magnificent tomb honors his memory.
