The Sphinx of Giza
It is known that the Sphinx Egyptian is devoid of the nose and it is widely believed that this is due to a cannonball fired by Napoleonic soldiers at the end of the 18th century.
Only this is not possible and the proof is found in the drawings than the Danish explorer Frederick Lewis Norden executed in 1735, where the splendid monument already appears mutilated, well before the arrival of Napoleon in Egypt, dating back to 1798.
Who is responsible for the scarring then?
In reality, despite various theories, there is still no certainty about it.
However, many scholars believe that it dates back to the Middle Ages, more or less from a period between the eighth and tenth centuries, when Muslims, irritated by the blasphemous idol that the Sphinx represented in their eyes, cut off her nose.
