Hair and beard in Ancient Greece
The first barbers, that is, hairdressing shops strictly intended for a male audience, were born in Ancient Greece.
In a generally open and cultured society like the Greek one, however, these places were not just places where you took care of yourself by shaving your beard and hair, but real meeting and meeting points for men who loved to talk about politics, art and philosophy or simply to confide in one another and have a chat.
As for the cosmetic products used by the barbers of the time, most of them were made from natural ingredients, among which beeswax was particularly appreciated and oil olive .
