The new Mathesis course "The Antikythera Mechanism" was created out of the love of a special person who is no longer with us for astronomy and archaeology, and was completed with the help of friends who generously participated in this effort.
Giannis Seiradakis researched the Antikythera Mechanism like few other people. As he said, this ancient astronomical computer "is to technology what the Acropolis is to architecture". With the infectiousness and kindness that distinguished him, he told us about the discovery of the Mechanism, about its operation and technological marvels, about the amazing astronomical calculations it performed, about modern representations and about its "user manual".
When Yiannis Seiradakis left us, we wanted as a small tribute to offer his course attendance certificates for free to everyone. The Endowment Committee of the Pancreatic Association of America, on whose donation the course was supported, was a key help in our endeavor. We feel the need to thank from the bottom of our hearts the Pancreatic Union of America for helping to make the lesson of this great Haniot accessible at no cost to anyone who wishes to see it. We would also like to give special thanks to Fiori-Anastasia Metallinou who unselfishly edited the course and created its accompanying material.
The work of Yiannis Seiradakis, but above all his kindness and morals, will continue to be an example and inspiration for us.
