Did many servicemen have psychological problems after World War 2?

Yes. An estimated 1.2 million people in the United States had psychological or emotional disorders after World War 2. Around 19,000 of these people required hospital care. These numbers did not include the many service members who had symptoms but were not diagnosed with any of these disorders. Service members who had psychological or emotional problems were more likely to have been in prolonged or intense combat. Service members who were isolated or who had difficult experiences during combat were also more likely to have these issues.
