What was significant about the Triple Entente?

Formation of the First Formal Military Alliances

The Triple Entente marked the end of more than a century of British isolationist foreign policy and was highly significant as being the first and second formal military alliances of major European powers (the other being the Triple Alliance formed by Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy).

These alliances would ultimately set the battle lines and contribute to the start and course of World War I.
