How long can an echo last?

An echo is a sound that is reflected off a surface and heard again. The time an echo lasts depends on several factors, including the distance from the source of the sound to the reflecting surface and the amount of absorption of the sound by the surrounding environment. In general, the farther the source of the sound is from the reflecting surface, the longer the echo will last. Additionally, the more sound absorption there is in the environment, the shorter the echo will last.
