The 1909 VDB cent was a transitional issue, with the "VDB" initials of the designer, Victor David Brenner, placed on the reverse below the wreath instead of the usual location on the obverse near the date. Only about 482,000 of these coins were produced, making them relatively scarce compared to other Lincoln pennies.
