Suffragettes were members of the women’s suffrage movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who sought to gain women’s right to vote. The term is primarily associated with the United Kingdom where the movement, known as the suffragette movement achieved success in 1918 when the Representation of the People Act was passed, giving women over 30 the vote.
