What did girls in colonial times do at school?

Girls in colonial America typically did not attend formal schools. Instead, they were expected to learn the skills they needed to run a household, such as cooking, cleaning, and sewing. They might also learn to read and write, but this was not always the case.

Some wealthy families might hire tutors for their daughters, who would teach them subjects such as math, history, and geography. However, most girls did not have access to this kind of education.
