Founded in France in the 1700s, Freemasonry it had an initiatory character and was based on profoundly and radically anti-absolutist and anticlerical principles.
The use of symbols was inherent in its structure and the repetition of rituals, characteristics that also became typical of similar organizations that arose after it and that drew considerable ideas and different inspirations from it.
