Eudes I (860 - 898)

Son of Robert the Strong, he is from the branch of the Robertians. He became king of the Franks, following his heroic conduct during the siege of Paris, in 886, against the Normans. Charles III the Fat, King of the Franks at the time, but above all Emperor of the West, was in no hurry to send troops. Charles will eventually be deposed in 887. The following year, Eudes is elected king of the Franks thanks to the support of all the Franks. Charles the Simple, legitimate king will fight during all the reign of Eudes to recover his throne. In 888, he won a decisive victory over the Normans at Montfaucon, but subsequently, powerless, he was forced to buy their withdrawal. During his reign, Eudes opposes the Carolingian supporters, Charles III, Carolingian heir submits in 897, but Eudes signs an agreement which makes him his successor. It is done, on the death of Eudes in 898, Charles III ascends the throne.
