Bertrand de Got or de Goth, was Archbishop of Bordeaux before becoming Pope under the name of Clement V. He went down in history for having ordered the suppression (with Philippe le Bel) of the order of the Templars and for having, in 1309, moved the Holy See to Avignon. He was crowned in Lyon in the church of Saint-Just in 1305. After the elimination of the Templars, the Pope decreed the devolution of the Temple's property to the order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. He died a month after the death of Jacques de Molay.
