archaeological essence

Thewalai Maha Kaset is located 100 meters west of Wat Tuek, south of Wat Pa Mamuang in Aranyik District, probably built during the reign of Somdej Phra Wihathammaracha Lithai. At the same time as the Mango Tree Temple This temple perfectly illustrates the influence of Hindu Brahminism in Sukhothai.

The name "Thewalai Maha Kaset" is found in the stone inscription of Wat Pa Mamuang (Khmer language) (4th digit) of Phra Maha Thammaracha Lithai. which was made in 1905 (or 1904 (Yorch Seedes 2526)) His Majesty King Mongkut Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and was enlightened His Highness discovered this inscription at the hill of the old city of Sukhothai in 1833 while on a pilgrimage to the northern provinces of Thailand. including Sukhothai

The last part of the first inscription mentions Phra Maha Thammaracha Lithai who enshrined images of Shiva and Vishnu at the Mahakaset Temple. In this mango forest to worship the swords and brahmins since 1892.

Image of Lord Shiva and Vishnu as mentioned here. It is believed that it corresponds to a group of bronze idols floating sculptures. clothed and wearing bronze ornaments on the upper arms and tiara Currently kept at the National Museum of Bangkok. The larger ones are Shiva, 3.08 meters high and Vishnu, 2.67 meters high (Special Chea Chanphong 2003 :17).

Prof. Dr. Sakchai Saising (2004:65) assumed that the inscription of Wat Pa Mamuang, the fourth (Khmer language) may be inscribed by a Brahmin in the royal court. because it is said to enshrine idols in the Brahmin religion therefore inscribed in Khmer language The inscription of Wat Pa Mamuang in Thai language (5th and 7th digits) is probably inscribed by Phraya Lithai or the royal court inscribed. While the inscription of Wat Pa Mango in Pali language (the 6th digit) clearly states that it is an inscription of the Supreme Patriarch who wrote in honor of Phra Maha Thammaracha Litai. because monks in this day are fluent in Pali

Thewalai Mahakaset building is a large mondop. The schematic is square. But the mandop has a rectangular shape. Mainly using a pole system then build a wall to hit the pillar The pillars were made of bricks in the shape of 8 large squares. The large walls were made of bricks. facing east There is a staircase leading up the front (Supatradit Diskul 1999:78; Special Cheachanphong 2003 :17; Sakchai Saising 2004 :39)

Prof. Dr. Sakchai Saising (2004:66) said that this temple tower looks like a large mondop building, different from the general mondop. The important thing is that it's a single building. no temple in front and there is no moat surrounding it, as in the style of temples in the Sukhothai period And the Chukchi base is different from the Chukchi base that supports Buddha images in general. Which will make a lotus base and have a concave part with the base of the Buddha image but here it is made into a rectangular platform and having a lower level of 1 level, may be used to enshrine idols.
