Maungkalae Temple

General Condition

Maung Kalae Temple is a large abandoned ancient site. It is located outside the ancient city of Nakhon Chum on the south side. within the current Nakhon Chum Subdistrict Municipality The surrounding area is a plain field. The north side of the temple is near National Highway No. 101, about 1,513 meters west of the Ping River.

Geological conditions

The Ping River basin is deposited with sediments, gravel, sand, silt and clay. There is a canal that flows from the western mountains into the Ping River.

Maung Ka Lae Temple is located on the Nakhon Chum side. It is next to Wat Nong Lanka to the west. There is a rectangular measurement plan. The temple faces east. The temple wall does not appear, but there are traces of digging a moat around to show the temple boundary, called Utoksima, which is a popular temple layout in Sukhothai culture.

The main chedi is a bell-shaped chedi in Sukhothai style, made of bricks. At the base, there is an amulet arch protruding on all 4 sides, next to it is a lotus tier supporting the bell with a rather slim body. The top of the chedi was completely destroyed, leaving only the Kanchat section.
