archaeological essence

Oub Mung is located on a small mound. Length along the east - west about 130 meters, width along the north - south about 40 meters (in the past it may have been a larger mound than today. It is about 1-2 meters high. The surrounding area is a plain in the low terrace area of the old river. Currently, it is an agricultural area.

Oub Mung is 600 meters southeast of the inner moat of Ban Mouang Ancient City and 300 meters southeast of the outer moat, away from Huai Phap or Huai Yot. which is a small river that is a tributary of the large dome and the Mun River and is a river that nourishes the moat of the city To the south about 1 kilometer away from Huai Yot. (It is a tributary of Lam Dome Yai and Mun River) to the south-west about 2.2 kilometers, about 13 kilometers south of the Mun River, and about 19 kilometers west of Lam Dome Yai.

Adjacent to the mound on the east side, there is an ancient swamp in the shape of a rectangle, about 50 meters long (along the east-west line) and about 25 meters wide (along the north-south line), which corresponds to the direction between Oub Mung and Nong Ku. A large swamp about 300 meters to the east of Umung, Nong Ku is presumed to be Baray during the Khmer period. (An era of Ban Khu Mueang is a community in Khmer culture)

The mound is located behind one of the villagers' houses. by the ancient swamp adjacent to the mound (The swamp is positioned in front of the house.) The owner of the house is still using it.

Oub Mung is an ancient masonry ruins. It is assumed that it is a building in the Khmer culture of the ancient city of Ban Khu Mueang, Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

From past studies of the Fine Arts Department, it was found that Oub Mung was originally the base of a brick structure. It has a height of about 1 line, 5 wa, which is sacred and is highly revered by the villagers. But about 40-50 years ago, it was excavated from the illegal excavation of antiques. where many Buddha images and amulets were found.

Survey of the Fine Arts Department 1997-1998 Still found that Oub Mung looks like a brick building base. Each brick is polished on the face of the brick. which is commonly found in brick castles in Khmer culture.

From interviews with villagers who passed by, no one knew that there was an ancient site on this mound. I only know that the whole area in this area is called "Oub Mung" according to the name of the old people in the community.

On the mound where Oub Mung is located, there is a lush forest. There were thick piles of leaves, no paths, and broken bricks and sandstone fell on the soil surface.

The archaeological site is located on the west side of the hill. It is a small mound about 2 meters high. On the mound there are trees and thick piles of dry leaves. There were broken bricks scattered densely throughout the hill. There is no brick building base left.
