The first cities

Çatal Hüyük

Location of central Anatolia, in the plain of Konya, an important dwelling center in the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods.
Its remains are of primary importance for the knowledge of the most ancient phase of the Neolithic of Anatolia and for the very close relations that emerge with Cilicia and the Euphrates region.

The city was born around 6500 BC

Its population was approximately 6,000 , (with variations from 5,000 to 8,000 over time) an immense and very populous city, compared to the low population of the time.
It occupied an area of ​​13 hectares, equal to 130000 square meters.
This city lasted well 1500 years .
The paintings and reliefs, of undoubted magical-religious significance, which decorated the walls of the houses and whose most frequent subjects consist of hunting scenes, bull heads and female figures are remarkable.
In particular, a wall painting from 6200 BC. depicts a settlement with blocks arranged orthogonally and dominated by an erupting volcano.
Although Catal Huyuk it was a real city, at least part of its people lived on farming and agriculture as well. They grew wheat, barley and peas, and raised flocks of sheep and goats. They kept dogs with them, and hunted wild cattle, wolves, foxes and leopards.
Also GERICO is included among the "oldest cities in the world", the first urban settlement around 7000 BC
