Adopted in 1938, the Walther P38 is a semi-automatic double action pistol used by the German army during the Second World War.

Developed during the 1930s to replace the famous aging Luger P08, it is the heir to the AP (Armee Pistol) protype developed in 1936. Wehrmacht orders were delivered by Walther but also by Mauser and Spreewerke.

After 1945, it was used as a semi-regulatory weapon by France (Police, Army, Gendarmerie), Yugoslavia, Portugal, Austria, Israel, Albania, Norway and Czechoslovakia.

Particularly precise and reliable and comfortable to use for its time, it was produced after the war using an aluminum alloy and marketed under the name Walther P1 (Bundeswehr regulation model between 1957 and 1995, replaced by the HK P8).
