Dear reader
One month of September 2010, a decade ago now, the number 1 magazine on political and military history of Antiquity and the Middle Ages Desperta Ferro appeared , with a circulation of only two thousand copies and a very limited distribution to a handful of bookstores and specialized stores. Such humble beginnings, with a country plunged into a fierce economic crisis, did not seem to predict a prolonged existence, at least among the most doomsayers. However, the success was instant.
To this first header, renamed Desperta Ferro Antigua y medieval , which hit newsstands the following year, was joined by a second, Desperta Ferro Historia Moderna , and a third, Desperta Ferro Contemporánea , and a fourth, Archeology and History , and special issues, with print runs reaching fourteen thousand copies.
And then came the illustrated books, which were followed by collections of essays on Ancient History, History of Spain, World War II, Medieval History, Modern History, History of America. And some of the best historians on the international scene.
Ten years, two hundred seven magazines and sixty-three books later, Desperta Ferro Ediciones has established itself as a leading publisher in the field of History, with widespread recognition from critics, the media, the academic world and the public. A project that was born with a modest aspiration for self-employment and in which sixteen full-time professionals and dozens of external collaborators work today. "History has no way out", they told us at the university...
There is no doubt that we would have loved to celebrate our tenth birthday in another way, but regardless of the circumstances, we have an outstanding debt. With you, dear reader, whether you followed us from the beginning or met us later, you have accompanied us throughout this decade. Without your encouragement, none of this would have been possible.
