Information about the post-Mauryan period

In the post-Mauryan period, many distinguished institutions ruled over different regions of India, in which Pushyamitra Sunga, Kharavela, Gautamiputra Satakarni and Kanishka were prominent,

Shunga Dynasty 

Pushyamitra Shunga was a Maurya general, who founded the Shunga dynasty in 185 BC by killing Brihadratha, the last Mauryan ruler. Pushyamitra Shunga made Ujjayini (Vidisha) his capital instead of Pataliputra. Pushyamitra was a supporter of Brahmin religion, he performed Ashwamedha Yagya twice with the help of his priest Patanjali.

Kanava dynasty

75 AD, PU I Vasudeva started the administration as the first ruler of the new year. There were four rulers of this dynasty – Vasudeva, Bhumimitra, Narayan and Susmarna. The last ruler of the Kanava dynasty, Susharman, was defeated by the Satavahana ruler Simuk.

Shaka\Pahlava

He was the first Sikh ruler of Taxila. Gandhara and the western part of Punjab were under his control. I was his successor Agenge, who ruled the whole of Punjab. Satsang was divided into satraps, its satrap was located in Gujarat. The Shakas were originally residents of the north of Shirdaria. They are also known as Scythians and Sakas – Pahlavas.

Kushan dynasty

Kujul Kadphises founded the Kushan dynasty in AD 15, his successor was Vima Kadphises. Vim Kadphises brought different region of North India under Kushanas. He was saved. He assumed the title Maheshwar. Wim Kadphises introduced the first gold coins in India. Kanishka became the ruler of India in 786, he made Purushpur his capital and started the Shaka era from the year of Rohan.

Kalinga (Chedi)

The famous ruler of Kalinga, Kharavela was the ruler of Chedi dynasty. He attacked Pataliputra and succeeded in bringing back the Jain idol looted by Mahanapadmananda from there. Kharavela built caves on Khandagiri mountain for the residence of Jain saints.
