Louis VIII the Lion(1187 - 1226)

Louis VIII was the son of Philippe II and Isabelle de Hainaut, he was the husband of Blanche de Castile. During the reign of his father, he fought fiercely against the English and King John Lackland in 1214 at La Roche-aux-Moines, which earned him the offer of the crown of England by the English barons hostile to John Lackland. . Having become King of France in 1223, he applied himself to destroying the power of the Plantagenêts family in France by taking back a certain number of territories from them. He then led the second crusade against the Albigensians in 1226 and retook Avignon. It was on his return from this crusade that he died of dysentery.
