Kum Kam Temple is an abandoned ancient site. It is located within the city of Wiang Kum Kam near the northern wall. There is a story recorded in the legend of Shinkalamali Pakorn that in the year 2060, Phra Mueang Kaew came to bathe the Buddha image at Koh Kum Kam Temple. There is also another passage mentioning the bringing of a bronze Buddha image to be enshrined at Kum Kam Temple.

The Fine Arts Department conducted an excavation and study of Wat Kum Kam for the first time in 1986 and later in the year 2003 – 2004 (Department of Fine Arts 2005:51 – 52). Found information on ancient sites and antiquities as follows:

The archaeological site of Kum Kam Temple consists of viharn, stupa, rectangular altars on the north and south of the chedi. Also to the north of the sanctuary is a mondop and a rectangular building, which is presumed to be an ordination hall.

Architectural features

Viharn, Viharn of Wat Kum Kam is a hall viharn. facing east There are 2 periods of overlapping construction. Currently, only the base part of the plexiglass base of the chicken breast is visible. In the rectangular plan, lifted 2 parts in front, 1 part in the back. There is a Chukchi base for enshrining the principal Buddha image in the entire area of ​​the room. The chedi of Wat Kum Kam is located at the back of the viharn. The bottom of the base is the base of the chopping board with unequal sides. parallel to the north Next up is the octagonal chopping board base to support the two layers of the octagonal board, the rest of the structure has been destroyed. making it impossible to know the exact pattern.

from the excavation around the base of the chedi Architectural fragments such as the inverted lotus, facing lotus, bell body parts, bell lotus, and stucco patterns adorning the frame of the Chakra Nam arch were found. Therefore, it is assumed that the chedi of Wat Kum Kam is probably the bell-top castle-shaped chedi in the octagonal layout.

Artifacts found

For antiques found in excavations in 1996 and 2003 - 2004, including stucco designs adorning the chedi. Lonely-shaped arch frame piece Brass tiered openwork with Phrueksa pattern and earthenware at the San Kamphaeng kiln Wiang Kalong furnace source and the Si Satchanalai furnace source.

Determination of age

Considering the evidence of the arts together with the found antiques including evidence that appears in the Shinkalam Malipakorn Kum Kam Temple was probably built around the 21st Buddhist century.

Relevant local legend
