General Condition

Wat Ku Khao is an abandoned ancient site. Located along the Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road (Old Line) at the 5th kilometer in Nong Hoi Subdistrict.

Condition before excavation Found a chedi with a height of about 5 meters and around the chedi is a small mound of earth. north and west adjacent to houses South is the road to Wiang Kum Kam. To the east is the Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road (Old Line), about 1.6 kilometers east of the Ping River.

The condition of the archaeological site is partially destroyed by road construction and houses.

The archaeological site of Wat Ku Khao consists of a viharn, a pagoda, an altar, a glass wall and an arch.

Architectural features

1. Viharn The viharn of Wat Ku Khao is rectangular in shape. Two overlapping traces of the viharn were found. The front and middle of the viharn were destroyed by road construction and the construction of civilian houses.

2. Chedi The chedi of Wat Ku Khao has the lower base as a chopping board base in a square plan, about 3 meters high, above it is the base in front of the two gauge boards, stacked in 3 tiers to support the two bases of the two pieces of plexiglass, two stacked plexiglass bases. Set separated by a layer of front board decorated with stucco guard pattern at every corner around the lift. It looks like a rectangular curved frame pattern. Decorated in a circle surrounded by Kanok and Swan designs. It has details close to that of Lai Kham painting. on the wall at the end of the Nam Taem temple Wat Phra That Lampang Luang which is a popular pattern in the 23rd Buddhist century.

The central part of the chedi is an octagonal vine wreath. There is only one floor left.

Artifacts found

Antiques found from excavation include a green glass Buddha image in subduing Mara posture, stone Buddha images. (Andesite stone), sitting cross-legged, Mara posture, broken head and parts of the hand of a bronze Buddha image, etc.

Determination of age

from the architectural style It is assumed that Wat Ku Khao should have been built around the end of the 21st - 22nd Buddhist centuries and from the stucco pattern that can be dated around the 23rd Buddhist century, it is believed that Wat Ku Khao should be renovated until the 23rd Buddhist century.
