How did the Incas read?

The Incas did not have a written language. They used a system of knotted strings called quipus to record and transmit information. Quipus were made from a series of colored strings, each of which represented a different type of information, such as numbers, events, or messages. The knots on the strings indicated specific numerical values or concepts. By carefully arranging and interpreting the knots, the Incas could record complex data and communicate it across long distances.
