Historical story

Why did Lewis and clark build fort mandan clapsop?

Fort Clatsop was built by Lewis and Clark, not Fort Mandan. Fort Clatsop was built by the Lewis and Clark Expedition as a winter camp during their exploration of the Pacific Northwest in 1805-1806. The fort was located near present-day Astoria, Oregon, at the mouth of the Columbia River. It was built to protect the expedition's supplies and equipment during the winter months when they were unable to travel.
