What did Augustus Caesar do to display the power of Rome?

To display Rome's power and magnificence, Augustus Caesar undertook several ambitious building projects and public works. These included:

1. The Forum of Augustus: Augustus constructed a new forum, the Forum of Augustus (Forum Augustum), in the heart of Rome. It featured the Temple of Mars Ultor (Mars the Avenger) and was adorned with statues and monuments celebrating Augustus's achievements.

2. The Mausoleum of Augustus: Augustus built an impressive mausoleum for himself and his family on the Campus Martius. It became a grand resting place for subsequent emperors and their relatives.

3. The Pantheon: Augustus initiated the construction of the Pantheon, a temple dedicated to all gods. It was later completed by Emperor Hadrian and remains an architectural marvel to this day.

4. The Ara Pacis: Augustus commissioned the construction of the Ara Pacis Augustae (Altar of Augustan Peace) to commemorate his military victories and the establishment of peace throughout the Roman Empire.

5. The Theater of Marcellus: Augustus initiated the construction of the Theater of Marcellus, a large amphitheater in Rome. It was later completed by Emperor Titus.

6. The Arch of Augustus: Augustus erected several triumphal arches to commemorate his victories, including the Arch of Augustus in Rimini, which still stands today as one of the oldest Roman arches.

7. Public Buildings: Augustus constructed many other public buildings, such as temples, libraries, theaters, baths, and aqueducts, to improve the infrastructure and grandeur of Rome.

8. Military Expansion: Augustus expanded the Roman Empire through successful military campaigns, adding territories in Spain, Gaul, Illyricum, Raetia, Noricum, and expanded the Roman frontiers in Africa and the Middle East.

Through these monumental projects and infrastructure developments, Augustus Caesar aimed to both impress his citizens with the might of Rome and create structures that would serve the practical needs of its people. These achievements played a significant role in solidifying his power and leaving a lasting legacy in the history of Rome.
