How long did the Roman Empire dominate?

The Roman Empire endured for over four hundred years, stretching from 27 BC to 476 AD. During its peak in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, the empire controlled vast territories in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, covering an area of about 5 million square kilometers. The empire eventually succumbed to internal conflicts, barbarian invasions, and administrative decline, leading to its collapse and eventual division into the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire and numerous successor states in Western Europe.
