What is the incas writing system?

The Incas did not have a writing system in the strict sense. They used a system of knotted strings called quipus to record information. Quipus consisted of a main cord with several colored strings attached to it. The strings could be knotted in different ways to represent numbers, words, or even complex messages. The Incas used quipus to keep track of everything from census data to military supplies.
