Why did the Roman Empire have to divide their empire?

The Roman Empire divided its territory primarily for administrative and military reasons. By the middle of the 3rd century CE, the empire had become too vast and unwieldy for a single ruler to effectively govern. The empire was plagued by internal conflicts, external invasions, and economic problems. Splitting the empire into two halves allowed for more efficient administration, better defense against enemies, and improved communication between the central government and the provinces.
