What did the Royalists consist of?

* The King: Charles I was the head of the Royalists and believed in the divine right of kings.

* The Court: The court was made up of the king's family and supporters, who were often wealthy and powerful noblemen.

* The Church of England: The Church of England supported the monarchy and saw the king as the head of the church.

* The Gentry: The gentry was made up of landowners and merchants who supported the king because they feared the radicalism and religious extremism of the Parliamentarians.

* The Universities: The universities were also largely Royalist, as they were closely tied to the Church of England.
