Did the Tea Act state that colonists had to buy tea from China?

The Tea Act did not state that colonists had to buy tea from China. Instead, it gave a monopoly on the tea trade in the colonies to the British East India Company, which was a commercial company and not a government entity. The colonists were still allowed to buy tea from other sources, but they would have to pay a tax on tea that they did not buy from the company.
