What is the history of hermano pule?

Hermano Pule, was a religious leader and prophet who, at the beginning of the 19th century, founded one of the first independent African churches in South Africa. Known as the "Ethiopian Church", and also as "Pentecostal church of Jerusalem (South Africa)", this Church had a great missionary success amongst the Africans throughout that country.

However, Hermano Pule and his religious movement, became a threat to the white rulers due to their ideological influence amongst Africans, promoting values such as the struggle for land rights , anti-colonialism and the use of African languages and customs

He died in May 1842 while still imprisoned because they feared further insurrections and rebellions that would endanger colonial power of those times
