Why did poor roman live in insulae?

* Affordability: Insulae were relatively affordable housing options for the urban poor. They were often located in crowded, unsanitary areas, but they were also relatively cheap to rent or buy.

* Convenience: Insulae were often located near markets, baths, and other public amenities, making them convenient for the urban poor who needed to access these services.

* Social networks: Insulae provided opportunities for the urban poor to develop social networks and communities. They could share resources, information, and support with each other.

* Cultural norms: In some Roman cities, it was considered normal for the poor to live in insulae. This was due to a combination of factors, including the lack of affordable housing options and the social stigma associated with poverty.
