In 1830, the Indian Removal Act was passed, which authorized the U.S. government to forcibly remove Native American tribes from their ancestral lands in the East and relocate them to Indian Territory in the West. This policy led to the forced removal of thousands of Native Americans from their homes, resulting in widespread death and displacement.
The U.S. government also engaged in a number of military campaigns against Native American tribes who resisted removal or who sought to maintain their independence. These campaigns, such as the Black Hawk War and the Seminole Wars, resulted in the defeat and subjugation of many Native American tribes.
