What did the Saxons make their homes out of?

The Saxons built their houses from wood, clay and thatch. These materials were often found in abundance in the areas where the Saxons settled, and were therefore easy to obtain. The walls of Saxon houses were made from a combination of wood and clay, with the clay being plastered over the wooden frame to create a weatherproof structure. The roofs were thatched with straw or reeds, and were often sloped to allow water to run off.
