What was the foot based off of in time roman empire?

The Roman foot was based on the average length of a man's foot, which was set at around 29.57 centimetres (11.64 inches). The foot was divided into 12 unciae, or inches, each of which was approximately 2.46 centimetres (0.97 inches) long. This measurement system was used by the Romans for both linear and volumetric measurements, with the foot serving as the basic unit of length.
