What was Christopher Columbus religion?

Christopher Columbus was a devout Roman Catholic. His faith played an important role in his life and his voyages of exploration. He often credited his successes to God's intervention, and he always made sure to give thanks to God after a successful voyage. Columbus also had a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary, and he often prayed to her for protection during his voyages. He also named many of the islands he discovered after saints, such as San Salvador and Santa Maria de la Concepcion.
